Fad Diets Vs. Lifestyle Change
Overview:
Wouldn’t it be amazing to drop all of your unwanted pounds in a couple of weeks, increase your energy levels and be in tip top shape by still eating everything you like?!
New fad diet plans are regularly appearing on the market, making all those promises.
Together we are going to tackle how to find a better solution to that problem.
The Difference:
First, let’s start with some definitions. When I talk about “fad diets” I want you to fully understand what I mean.
Fad diets are much like fads in fashion. They are something that is popular for a small amount of time, they go away but then make a come back in the future. Fad diets promise you quick, yet temporary results, they depend on specific rules and guidelines, they have an end to them and are an unrealistic way look at food plans.
On the other hand, a lifestyle change is when you make a long term commitment to changing your habits. A lifestyle change will leave you with lasting results, help you understand moderation instead of deprivation and has no end in sight.
Why a Lifestyle Change is Beneficial:
Making a lifestyle change should be an easy choice. You are able to dictate what habits you decide to change, how you will go about it, how quickly (or not) you will make your changes and figure out what works best for YOU! The fun thing about a lifestyle change is how it is specific to only your life and nobody else’s.
It can seem a bit overwhelming in the beginning not knowing where to begin, but once you start it will be easier.
How to Make the Change:
There are 3 simple steps that I like to remember when thinking about making a lifestyle change.
Start by writing down your current habits.
Write down which habits you want to improve and how.
Make a thorough plan that is realistic and achievable.
Some examples of choosing healthier habits could be:
Decreasing sugar intake
Increasing fruit and vegetable intake
Learning portion control
Reducing mindless snacking
Increasing fiber intake
Reducing junk food
Remember, you want to set SMART goals that can continue for a lifetime. These changes are not easy, and take practice but they are so worth it in the long run. You only have 1 body, treat it right!
*SMART = Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely*
